An Abominable Anniversary

Tuesday was the 40^th anniversary of the 1973 Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade which declared abortion to be a Constitutional right. Since that tragic and immoral ruling, 55 million babies have been killed in our nation—which amounts to about one-sixth of our current population. Eyes gloss over when numbers get real big, so let’s break it down. There were about 1.2 million babies aborted in 2012. That means there were more than 3,300 abortions daily and 137 abortions per hour every hour; about one every 30 seconds. When Ed Morrissey of Hot Air did some number crunching he discovered that 28% of all pregnancy outcomes in the United States during the past 40 years ended in an abortion. That means that since Roe v. Wade our nation has discarded over a quarter of all babies waiting to be born.

In its latest annual report for fiscal year 2011-2012, Planned Parenthood reveals that it performed 333,964 abortions. They didn’t do that all on their own. According to that same report, they received $542 million in taxpayer funding (45% of their annual revenue). Planned Parenthood continually tells us they are about health care for women, but since 2009 their cancer screening and prevention services they like to talk so much about has dropped nearly 30% and their contraceptive services 12 percent (Washington Examiner, January 7, 2013, “Planned Parenthood reports record year for abortions”). You are what you are, Planned Parenthood—a profit driven abortion business.

All these numbers (dead babies) don’t bother everyone, of course. They don’t seem to bother our President. On the 40^th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, we reaffirm its historic commitment to protect the health and reproductive freedom of women across this country and stand by its guiding principle: that the government should not intrude on our most private family matters, and women should be able to make their own choices about their bodies and their health care. Today and every day, my Administration continues our efforts to reduce unintended pregnancies, support maternal and child health, and minimize the need for abortion. On this anniversary, we recommit ourselves to supporting women and families in the choices they make and redouble our efforts to promote safe and healthy communities.

I would love to go line-by-line through his statement, but I will hold back. Save for this, “Go ahead, Sir, ‘recommit’ and ‘redouble’ as you say. We will do more. Oh, and this. I know nobody likes Christians talking as such but God is not on your side. It’s never about doing what we want with our bodies; it’s always about what He wants. And I assure you, killing babies isn’t on His list.”
