We’re told it’s unwise to be a one-issue voter. We are told it’s naïve to jettison a candidate who fails our particular litmus test; that we’re losing sight of the big picture when we do. There is an issue, however, that trumps all other political issues and says a lot about a candidate. That issue is abortion. And if a candidate is “pro-choice”; there’s no chance that candidate gets my vote.
I know there are all kinds of issues. There is poverty, and national defense, and immigration, and the environment, and so on. It is said no candidate can represent us exactly. I suppose. But I refuse to stand with anyone who believes it is a right to kill a baby. That tells me all I need to know.
In 2000, the Democratic National Platform stated: “Democrats stand behind the right of every woman to choose. We believe it is a constitutional liberty.” In 2004, the Democratic National Platform added: “We stand proudly for a woman’s right to choose…regardless of her ability to pay.” That means if she wants an abortion, tax payers are to pick up the tab.
You can read between the lines how many Democrats I have voted for the past few years. Murder isn’t a political issue; it is a moral one even with its own Commandment. This is a moral issue; therefore my faith advises me how to vote.
Perhaps you heard the ruckus. In February, a pro-life group sponsored a billboard in Manhattan. It showed a picture of a black child with the words: “The most dangerous place for an African American is in the womb.” The three Planned Parenthood clinics in New York City reported nearly 17,000 abortions in 2010. Of those, a far and away disproportional amount was black children. In fact, the New York City Department of Health reported that there is an overall 41% abortion rate in the city—meaning for every ten pregnancies, over four of them end with an abortion. But look at the numbers closely. The white abortion rate is just over 20% while a staggering 60% of all black pregnancies in New York City are aborted. Henceforth the billboard; a billboard, I might add, that was pulled only after a few days because of local complaint.
Numbers and stats can pass by quickly but mull these over for a minute. Fifty-two million babies have been killed since Roe v. Wade (1973). Over 13 million of those were African American babies. That’s 25% of all abortions coming from less then 13% of the population. The numbers are now trending up; however, about 35% of all abortions now come from the black community. Can someone talk me out of using the word genocide?
And can Planned Parenthood tell us why we are far more likely to find one of their clinics in the ethnic city rather than in the white suburbs? And if you think that is conspiratorial, “Google” Planned Parenthood’s founder, Margaret Sanger, and read what she said about “purifying the bloodlines” and “restricting the reproduction of the unfit”. She was evil.
A “D” after someone’s name on the ballot doesn’t stand for “depraved”; an “R” doesn’t mean they are “redeemed”. But given the abortion numbers, why does the black community (and church?) vote in such overwhelming numbers for those responsible for a “right” that has now killed more African American babies since 1973 than the total number of African American deaths from AIDS, violent crimes, accidents, cancer, and heart disease combined?
This is why I am a one issue voter.
