Our History

History of Evangelical Reformed Church

We formed when a number of families became dissatisfied with the teaching at a church they had attended for many years. At approximately the same time, several of these families attended conferences featuring speakers such as R.C. Sproul, James Montgomery Boice, Alistair Begg, Michael Horton, and Doug Wilson.

Several prayer meetings in the summer and fall of 1996 began to confirm our changing understanding of God, His Gospel, and the church. Many of us had a growing sense that God was much more holy and we were much more sinful than we had imagined. God’s sovereignty, a forgotten attribute, became more embraced, too.

Our growing passion for God-centered worship in response to His amazing grace and glorious Gospel overcame the need for comfortable surroundings and the difficulty of leaving a church with many dear friends. After two interest meetings and a call to a local church to rent space, we held our first worship service on January 5, 1997. Forty-eight people attended that first service at our new church...Evangelical Reformed Church.
