Abortion Madness

On January 22nd, our nation commemorated the 42nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade. It is one of the darker days on our nation’s calendar—perhaps the darkest. Those who proudly call themselves “Pro Choice” celebrate a decision that has taken the life of well over 50 million babies since that fateful day in 1973. Over 1 million more babies’ lives will violently be terminated in the coming year.

Here are a few more astounding numbers: Over 1 in 5 (21%) of all pregnancies end in abortion; by age 45, approximately 1/3 of American women have had an abortion; 75% of women having an abortion say that having a baby would interfere with work, school, or the ability to care for other dependents.

Our president chimed in, as he does every year, saying this in his press release: “Forty-two year ago today, the U.S. Supreme Court issued its ruling in Roe v. Wade, a decision that protects a woman’s freedom to make her own choices about her body and her health, and reaffirms a fundamental American value: that government should not intrude in our most private and personal family matters.” He ended his gibberish this way: “Today, as we reflect on this critical moment in our history, may we all rededicate ourselves to ensuring that our daughters have the same rights, freedoms, and opportunities as our sons.” Mr. President, sir, if I may; it is politicians such as yourself in bed with Planned Parenthood that aren’t protecting our sons and daughters—you are butchering them.

Here are more sobering facts. The United States is one of only six nations in the world that allow abortion on demand into the third trimester and Washington is one of only thirteen states currently where a minor can get an abortion without her parents even knowing about it.

In fact, abortion is the only medical procedure a minor can get without her parent’s consent. Our state says a minor can’t get a tattoo or go to a tanning bed. Our state says a minor must get parental permission to go to an R rated movie and bring a note from home to be given an aspirin by a school nurse. How does this make any sense?

Romans 1:26-27 is often used as Scriptural proof against homosexuality; and rightly so—”God gave them up to dishonorable passions.” But the verses that follow these identify other examples of what “God gave them up” ends up looking like: “…a debased mind to do what ought not to be done” (v. 28). What types of things does a “debased mind” do? Verses 29-31 provide a list, identifying such things as murder, inventors of evil, heartlessness, and ruthlessness.

How else can we explain mothers and fathers aborting their own children? How else can we explain politicians who proudly tell their constituents they’re “Pro-Choice” and vote to send millions of tax payer dollars to the nation’s largest slaughter house (Planned Parenthood)? How else would the President of the United States gleefully send out a press release each year to celebrate this madness?

Romans chapter 1 tells us. But the book doesn’t end there. “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (8:1). That’s some good news for 1/3 of the women out there; that’s some good news for the rest of us, too.
