There are many educational opportunities at ERC including Bible education on Sunday morning. Sunday School is offered for grades K-12 and adults. The K-9 class is currently using material from Great Commission Publication.

Current Classes

There is Sunday School for youth and adults from 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM from September to May.

  • “The Westminster Confession” – Adult Sunday School taught by Elder Harvey Wieczorkiewicz (located in the Worship Training Room/Classroom & Library across from the kitchen)
  • “Prayer” – Adult Sunday School taught by Elder Eric Cooper (located in the Fellowship Hall)

  • A study of Church History AD 1500 to 1620. The class viewed a DVD presentation followed by discussion. The class was taught by Ron Nelson and Paul Jackson and was completed in June 2018.
  • A section-by-section study of Ecclesiastes which studied and discussed a number of different issues related to both life and doctrine. The class was taught by Chris Nyland and completed in June 2018.
  • A study of 1st Corinthians. Was taught by Chris Nyland and was completed in January 2018.
  • “Marriage, Parenting, and Culture.” Was taught by Pastor Rich and was completed in January 2018.
  • A section-by-section study of 1st Corinthians, chapter 1-9. A number of different issues related to both life and doctrine are discussed as they apply today. This class was taught by Chris Nyland and was completed in June 2017.
  • Church History AD 500-1500. This class covered early church history with an emphasis on God’s promise to build and preserve his church. The series touched on theology, apologetics, and notable church leaders. The class was taught by Jeff McInnis and was completed in June 2017.
  • “Engaging Culture.” A class discussion on current events and issues facing the church today and how to engage the culture with the gospel message. Discussion included how to maintain a biblical worldview in a post-Christian society. Was taught by Pastor Rich Hamlin and was completed in January 2017.
  • A verse-by-verse study of the book of Esther. Was taught by Chris Nyland and was completed in January 2017.
  • Church History AD 100-600. This class covered early church history with an emphasis on God’s promise to build and preserve his church. The classed touched on theology, apologetics, and notable church leaders. Was taught by Jeff McInnis and was completed in June 2016.
  • A verse-by-verse study of the Epistles of 1, 2, 3 John. Taught by Chris Nyland.
  • It’s a Family.” Perhaps an odd title for an adult Sunday School class–but not anymore. What does God say on the subject? Was taught by Pastor Rich Hamlin and completed in January 2016.
  • A verse-by-verse study of the book of Zechariah and was taught by Chris Nyland and completed at the end of May 2015.
  • “Only Two Religions.” A class using the video series by Ligonier Ministries. The series was presented by Dr. Peter Jones, who examines the worldview and fundamental religious convictions that drive modern culture. He demonstrated that in the final analysis, there can be only two religions – worship of the Creator or worship of creation. The class was taught by Jeff McInnis was and was completed in May 2015.
  • “Economics for Everyone.” Why a Sunday School class on economics? Our definition of the term provides the reason: “Economics is man making choices as to how to best use his limited resources in order to be a good steward before God.” Sounds like it is a matter for our sanctification–it is. The class was taught by Pastor Rich Hamlin and was completed in January 2015.

  • A study of the book of Job taught by Chris Nyland. Completed at the end of January 2014.
  • “Sex, Bible, and Culture.” The Bible says a lot on the subject. Who are we listening to? Culture or the Bible? The class was taught by Pastor Rich Hamlin and was completed at the end of May 2013.
  • A study of 2 Corinthians. In the section-by-section study of the book of 2 Corinthians. The class explored Paul handled the danger of his losing his authority at Corinth and how he struggled to preserve the Corinthians from apostasy. The class was taught by Chris Nyland and was completed at the end of May 2013.
  • A Study of Psalm 119. The class used their Bibles as we go through Psalm 119 stanza by stanza. The class was taught by Chris Nyland and was completed at the end of May 2012.
  • “Sex, Bible, and Culture.” Our culture makes lots of statements about sexuality. Are they the right statements? Most of the time they are not. Sexual sin is rampant in the culture; sadly, it can be in the church, too. Yet the Bible says a lot on the subject. Who are we listening to? Culture or the Bible? Class used R. Albert Mohler’s book, Desire and Deceit: The Real Cost of the New Sexual Tolerance, to help direct our discussion. The class was taught by Pastor Rich Hamlin and was completed at the end of May 2012.
  • “Living a Holy Life in an Unholy World.” A study of First Peter with a focus that Peter places on holiness as he writes to encourage his readers, who were facing persecution for their faith, to stand firm (1 Peter 5:12). The class used John Piper’s book, The Hidden Smile of God: The Fruit of Affliction in the Lives of John Bunyan, William Cowper, and David Brainerd, as a supplementary to studying First Peter. The class is taught by Chris Nyland and was completed in January 2012.
  • This apologetics class took a further look at the area of apologetics, particularly classical apologetics (build upon the class in 2009). The class used the book, Defending Your Faith, by R.C. Sproul as well as additional resources and case studies. The class was taught by Jeff McInnis and was completed in May 2011.
  • Studied the book of Ruth with Faithful God: An Exposition of the Book of Ruth by Sinclair Ferguson. This class was taught by Chris Nyland and was completed in December 2010.
  • Studied the book of Judges. This class was taught by Chris Nyland and was completed in June 2010.
  • This class looked at the area of apologetics using case studies and Richard Pratt’s book Every Thought Captive: A Study Manual for the Defense of Christian Truth. The class was taught by Jeff McInnis and was completed in December 2009.
  • Studied the book of Psalms using Tremper Longman’s book, How to Read the Psalms for support and was completed in June 2009. Taught by Chris Nyland.
  • The film series called Foundations, An Overview of Systematic Theology a sixty-week course by Dr. R. C. Sproul. was taught by Jim Howard and was completed in May 2008.
  • 20 Controversies That Almost Killed a Church taught by Roland Robinson.
  • “Addictions: Finding Hope in the Power of the Gospel” taught by Pastor Rich Hamlin.
  • “My Father’s World” taught by Roland Robinson.
  • “Apologetics: Defending the Truth” taught by Pastor Rich Hamlin.
  • Mortifying Sin: The Enemy Within taught by Pastor Rich Hamlin. The link takes you to the handouts and allows you to print the handout that you seem to have misplaced.
  • Essential Truths of the Christian Faith taught by Roland Robinson.
  • The text used in a class on church history was Trial and Triumph: Stories From Church History by Richard M. Hannula. The class handouts, historical highlights of the Christian church, are still very useful both as a timeline of church history, and a summary of the significance of some really big words that theologians sometimes use.
